We were delighted to work with the team at Clancy recently to deliver 554 student bed spaces at Ashlin House Student Accommodation on Bandon Road in Cork City.

Designed by O’Mahony Pike on behalf of asset management firm Round Hill Capital, this €53 million development comprises five residential blocks in the heart of historic Cork. These blocks range in height up to six storeys and vary in size, from 1,500 sqm. to 4,700 sqm.

The Horizon Offsite team designed and manufactured the frame at our facility in Cahir, County Tipperary, using 163,000 LM of light gauge steel, 560 tons of hot rolled steel, 12,400m2 of composite deck and 10,400 m2 of insulation. Each frame was assembled off site and then delivered and erected on site in Cork. While the entire development started in May 2020 and achieved practical completion in April 2022, Horizon’s on site time was 42 weeks.

As part of the compliance process, a full scale of acoustic and fire tests was completed on unique project details by the Horizon Offsite experts.

Ashlin House student accommodation will be home to over 500 students in Cork each year. The accommodation ranges from shared apartments with living areas, to studio rooms with fully equipped kitchenettes – there is even a three-bed townhouse on site. All rooms at Ashlin House have an ensuite bathroom and access to first rate amenities and lush communal areas.

This project is now substantially complete, with handover due to take place next month and students are expected to move in in September, just in time for the upcoming academic year. From which time the accommodation will be managed by student accommodation leaders, Nido.
